Sarah Pickstone

Sarah Pickstone is an award winning artist who is a visiting tutor to several London art colleges and a member of Senior faculty at the Royal Drawing School.

Sarah Pickstone was commissioned by the Royal Academy, to make a work responding to the life of RA founder member Angelica Kauffman. This culminated in two large paintings: The Rainbow and Belvedere 2018, which can be seen in Burlington House until August 2019.  Pickstone’s work often celebrates women’s literary and art history. In 2012 she won the prestigious John Moores Painting Prize, having been runner up in 2004. Her work is held in significant public and private collections and she shows internationally.  Born in Manchester, Pickstone studied at Newcastle University and the Royal Academy Schools 1988- 1991. She won the Rome painting prize 1991-2 and her stay in Italy made a big impact on her work. Pickstone sees teaching as an important part of her practice and she is a visiting tutor to several London art colleges and a member of Senior faculty at the Royal Drawing School. She lives and works in London.
